INTRODUCTION

Alfred Lee, born in 1972 is a native of Malaysia currently residing in the USA. He began studies of music with Ms. Jenny Chin at the early age of 8, and three years later, his musical talent became public after winning a National Electronic Organ Competition in Malaysia. At age 18, after completing his music theory diploma from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM), London, he left his home country for the United States of America to further his studies at the College of Music, University of North Texas (UNT), Denton, Texas.
Upon his achievements and accomplishments there, Mr.Lee obtained four scholarships and a grant to complete his studies, majoring in Music Composition with a minor in Music Theory, concentrating on harpsichord and voice. Under the tutelage of Dr. David Dzubay, Dr. Joseph Klein, Dr. Martin Mailman, Dr. Thomas Clark, Dr. Diana Bush, and Dr. Lenora McCroskey, he obtained high respects from his peers and professors alike. He was nominated to be among the most outstanding students of class 1994 in the prestigious honorary music organization called Pi Kappa Lambda. In 1995, he graduated with honors-Magna Cum Laude, and was offered the position of Director of Instrumental Music at Trinity Episcopal Church, which he held in the next 5 years (1995-2000).
Through the years, Mr. Lee has performed recitals and conducted seminars in Europe, Asia, Australia, the Bahama Islands, Canada, and the United States of America. He has appeared in many different high profile venues, among them are the Little Carver Theatre, Charles W. Eismann’s Center, The Meyerson’s Center, the historical St. Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney, Australia,, and the Dora Stratou Theatre by the Acropolis at Athens, Greece. Mr. Lee was also involved with the New World Ballet and Chamberlain Ballet companies, performed for the Dallas première of the movie Star Wars-Episode II, composed the opening number for the 2002 Mary Kay Cosmetics Annual Convention, and was the music director for Lay Witnesses for Christ International (LWCFI), a religious organization which served as the chaplains to the Olympians during the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics. In 2001, he was honored with the Dr. Alvie Spencer 'Service' Award at the Christian Athletes’ Banquet in Dallas, TX. Active as a composer, he has won the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's first young composer competition, and was a finalist in the San Jose Symphony Orchestra's composer competition. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has recognized Mr. Lee with special distinction as being the top five in the 23rd Annual Rudolf Nissim Award among 300 peers of classical composers. He has works commissioned and performed by various different performing groups and organizations including the Cottbus Youth Symphonic Band of Germany, the Macau Chamber Orchestra, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the well-acclaimed Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London, UK. In the summer of 2003, one of Mr. Lee’s compositions was performed in concert together with the Three Tenors at the Royal Victoria Park, Bath, England. In autumn of 2005, he was commissioned to compose a work for two pianos which was premièred in Carnegie Hall, New York. Currently, he is the director of a new string quintet group called ReZound.
